Interfacing a NMEA 0183 device to an Axiom MFD, an a6x MFD, or an a7x MFD

Axiom MFDs, a6x MFDs, and a7x MFD feature a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 communications interface, but lack a NMEA 0183 communications interface. For those seeking to simply supply a DSC VHF radio or SSB with 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 GPS sentences (GGA, RMC, or VTG), please click here to view a FAQ addressing how one may do so.

For those seeking to interface an AIS receiver or AIS transceivers NMEA 0183 communications interface to one of these MFDs, it would be recommended that the AIS receiver or AIS transceiver be interfaced to a 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridging device (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-AIS, etc.) which in turn has been interfaced as a spur to a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone to which the MFD has also been interfaced as a spur. If seeking information concerning how to construct a simple powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone to interface the MFD to one other device, please click here.

For those seeking to interface a device having a 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications interface to one of these MFDs, it would be recommended that the device be interfaced to a 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridging device (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-STNG, etc.) which in turn has been interfaced as a spur to a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone to which the MFD has also been interfaced as a spur.
