[DG11] Position of EV-1 Sensor - Dengle - 03-29-19 06:35 AM

Is it better to mount the EV-1 Sensor as far forward towards the bow for response time. The manual says as close to the battery as possible.

Hi Dengle

Thank you for your enquiry.

In general our advice is to mount the EV1 sensor as close to the pitch and roll centre of the boat as possible, this is where the unit is subject to least motion, however, since there will be other electrical, electronic and likely magnetic material near this location, the transducer invariably ends up being moved Aft, outboard and up - in that order to get it clear of ferrous and deviating masses or effects.

Mounting the EV1 sensor in the bow will subject it to widely varying vertical and horizontal accelerations as well as effects from anchor chains, windlasses, bow thrusters etc . . .

More information regarding factors that effect the EV heading sensor can be found here

Kind regards
Derek
