We are a totally Raymarine sailboat currently on our 3rd gen of Raymarine devices. The screen on our RL80CRC has failed and we have purchased a "new" RL80CRC to replace it because we did not want to change all our our hardware. We are currently sailing in Tahiti. Here's the question. Is there a way to transfer all our routes and waypoints to the new RL80CRC. We do not have a blank card and we have no way to get one. Also any hints when we replace the unit. We have the CMAP chart card. Thank you so much.

Hello Liward48,

You can output waypoints and routes from a Pathfinder-generation display over either HSB or NMEA0183, assuming that the screen of the old display is still visible enough to read or you can do the keypresses blindly following the user manual or the other display button-for-button. HSB is easier, as long as both are the same generation. AS far as generations go, there's
  • Pathfinder HSB1
  • Pathfinder Plus HSB2
  • HSB1 hardware with a software update to give partial HSB2 compatibility
  • HSB1 case with an HSB2 CPU PCB inside, giving full HSB2 capability
HSB1 can only talk to HSB1, HSB2 only to HSB2, and depending on whether you have HSB1 hardware or HSB2 hardware affects whether you need an external 'network terminator' (120ohm resistor) in order to make the network work...


If you don't know what you have to this degree of detail, it's probably better to go with NMEA0183.

To do NMEA0183, wire the original display's NMEA0183 output +ve and -ve to the new display's NMEA0183 input +ve and -ve:
Old | New
Blue (optional, dedicated NMEA0183-out cable) | Orange (on power cable)
White (optional, dedicated NMEA0183-out cable) | Yellow (on power cable)
If you don't have the NMEA-out cable you can use 1/8" crimps on your own cable - the connector pinout is in the handbook.

The basic process of the transfer is:
  1. set new display to receive
  2. set old display to send
  3. wait a few seconds for the transfer to complete - time dependent on the amount of data, but typically 5-15s from memory.

The process is very similar for an HSB transfer, you just need to network the displays together first, which is a whole other story as described above.
