[CA11] how to connect X10 Smartpilot to Garmin 942xs - Jay Fisher - 06-01-19 08:51 PM I have a Garmin 942xs that I would like to connect to my smartpilot X10. Can you tell me the best way to do that? Thank you, Jay RE: [CA11] how to connect X10 Smartpilot to Garmin 942xs - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 06-04-19 10:45 AM Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Jay, The most reliable means of connecting Garmin systems to the the SPX autopilots has been to utilize an Actisense NGW-1-ISO NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 Data Bridge. The NMEA 0183 leads of the NGW-1-ISO would be interfaced to the corresponding NMEA 0183 terminals of the SPX autopilot. The NMEA 2000 plug of the NGW-1-ISO would then be interfaced to a spur socket within the system's powered and properly terminated NMEA 2000 backbone to which the Garmin products have been interfaced. Can you make this "dummy proof" if you havent already. The NMEA 0183 TXA and TXB leads of the Actisense NGW-1-ISO NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridge will be interfaced to the NMEA 0183 IN+ and NMEA 0183 IN- terminals respectively of the SPX10 autopilot course computer. These connections will permit the autopilot to receive navigational data associated with a Go To or Follow route command executed via the Garmin 924xs . Similarly, the NMEA 0183 RXA and RXB leads of the Actisense NGW-1-ISO NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridge will be interfaced to the NMEA 0183 OUT+ and NMEA 0183 OUT- terminals respectively of the SPX10 autopilot course computer. These connections will permit the Garmin 924xs to receive heading and rudder angle data from the autopilot. The Garmin 924xs features a NMEA 2000 communications interface. It is recommended that you refer to the NMEA 2000 considerations section of your Garmin 924xs Installation Guide. As shown therein, the Garmin 924xs may be interfaced as a spur to a powered and properly terminated NMEA 2000 backbone. Interfacing the Actisense NGW-1-ISO NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridge as a spur to this same backbone would then permit the Garmin 924xs to communicate with the SPX autopilot course computer. Certified Raymarine Installer are available to perform such installations if interfacing such equipment is not within your skill set. |
