[CA11] looking for sonar setup help - lennies - 06-10-19 07:50 PM We have an a68 which came with the CPT100 transducer. We intend to use it with a through hull type transducer (CPT120). Our intended purpose is the ability to see shallow water obstacles like rocks that might impact the keel of the boat. The dark waters of the coves in the Northwest Passage keep the rocks hidden until its too late, so we bought the sonar package in hopes of avoiding damage. That said, are there any helpful tips on mounting the transducer so that we get a more forward looking view of the bottom features and or better shallow water performance? We thought about just keeping the CPT100, mounting it to a broomstick and holding it over the bow when things get shallow. Any thoughts? boat-Jeanneau 34.2 network STNG other instruments e7, i70s, ST to STNG adapters, ST 60 wind and tridata, ST4000, Quantum radar (wifi) a68 linked to e7 via Raynet cable (e7 in cockpit and a68 below at nav station) Lennie RE: [CA11] looking for sonar setup help - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 06-12-19 10:00 AM Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Lennie, Raymarine fishfinding products are not designed perform as forward looking sonar products. That said, a DownVision transducer would not typically be used with sailing vessels. Instead, a CPT-S transducer would typically be used with ax8/eSx8 MFDs and Axiom MFDs installed on sailing vessels. This low profile transducer would typically be installed forward of the keel. In the past owners of forward looking sonar products (ex. Interphase) have interfaced the video output to Raymarine systems or to a video encoder to have the Raymarine system repeat video from such systems. RE: [CA11] looking for sonar setup help - lennies - 06-13-19 11:29 AM Thanks for your advice. Is there any product development going on at Raymarine that has forward looking sonar for a near future release?
