[CA11] Replacing a Robertson AP3000 Auto pilot - bwmarks - 06-24-19 06:35 PM

My boat has a Robertson AP3000 auto pilot. It is failing quickly, and being 1994 issue, not worth fixing.

I've used E-200 autopilots and love them, is this an option for direct replacement or do I need the E-400?

I want a stand alone A/P so compatibility and talking between the Garmin MFD is no needed. or is direct talk with the Furuno Radar

The current hydraulic pump is a Robertson RPU 160 which is in great shape it's specs are 60 bar pressure, 12V 3-10A draw 10-33 cubic inch capacity and doesn't need to be replaced

Since the boat is used commercially, I'd also like a remote for the auto pilot - wireless is preferred.

The boat is a Robbins 40 deadrise, 435 hp, single inboard 15 GT (30,000 lbs) 40 x 14 x 3

Please let me know what system to get and I'll order it right away, hand steering daily on charters is not fun!

thanks

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Brian,

As you have suggested, the T70162 Evolution EV-400 Power would be recommended for a Robertson RPU 160 hydraulic drive.

Should you elect to one day interface the autopilot to the Garmin system, then it would be recommended that an Actisense NGW-1-ISO-STNG data bridge be used to interface the Evolution autopilot the Garmin chartplotting system. The NGW-1-ISO-STNG's NMEA 2000 cable will be plugged into a spur socket (white) within the backbone which will be interfacing the Evolution autopilot components to one another. The Actisense NGW-1-ISO NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridge features a pair of NMEA 0183 input and output leads. The NMEA 0183 RXA and RXB leads of the Actisense NGW-1-ISO NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridge will be interfaced to the NMEA 0183 OUT+ and NMEA 0183 OUT- terminals respectively of the Garmin charplotting system to permit the Evolution autopilot to receive navigational data associated with a Go To or Follow route command executed via the Garmin chartplotting system.
