[DG11] Compass mag and true heading identical - gwomir - 07-09-19 11:59 AM

I recently bought a sailboat that has a Raymarine C70 Classic with ST6002 autopilot. The magnetic heading on the autopilot and MFD matches what a normal magnetic compass gives. When I display true heading on the MFD it is always the same as magnetic. In my area there should be 9 degree difference between magnetic and true. Should the MFD adjust it based on location automatically or is this something that can be adjusted manually? If manually then where?

Hi gwomir

Thank you for your enquiry,

Normally the local Variation is determined from the chart card in the MFD, or of there is no chart card or it is out of date, then variation can be input into the autopilot calibration - depending on the age of the autopilot.

Best action is to update the chart cartridge, note this may need the C70 software updated too, also check the Variation value in the ST6002 autopilot calibration too.
Thanks
Derek
