Type 300 Course Computer 12V

Type 300 Course Computer 12V
My ST7000 failed, black screen, Dead! It was connected to a Type 300 Course Computer. Due to the ST7000 being obsolete I purchased a new ST8001 I was told it was compatable. When I power up It displays "No Pilot." It is getting data as it displayed a shallow alarm.

First question is the ST8001 compatable with the Type 300 Course Computer?

I connected a short cable "2 foot" cable from the Yellow, red and ground Seatalk connector on the Course Computer to the ST8001 control unit with the same results. I also connected the same lead to the second set of Seatalk connectors on Course Computer...same results (No Pilot). Is there anyway I can test the Course Computer or is there somewhere I can send it for test and repair?

Thanks

Gary

RE: Type 300 Course Computer 12V
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Gary,

Any of the ST600x and ST700x Autopilot Control Heads would be compatible with a Type 300 Autopilot Course Computer. As the ST800x Autopilot Control Heads cannot be used to configure the Type 300 Autopilot Course Computer, they are not considered to be compatible with a Type 300 Autopilot Course Computer. The problem which you have reported is indicative of a communications failure between the autopilot control head and autopilot course computer. These autopilot control heads may be configured to display a number of different data items (see the autopilot control head's users guide or Chapter 3 of the S1, S2, S3 Commissioning Guide). Should the autopilot control head be verified to be able to display data (Depth, Water Temp, COG, SOG, etc.) from the system or respond to alarms triggered within the system, then the fault would appear to be rooted either in:
- the SeaTalk cabling which is interfacing the autopilot course computer's SeaTalk terminals to the SeaTalk bus, or ... recommend performing continuity testing and verification that the SeaTalk cable leads have been connected to the SeaTalk terminals matching the colors of the SeaTalk cable's leads (red, yellow, and silver (shield)
- the SeaTalk communications circuitry of the autopilot course computer ... the most common means of testing the autopilot control head would be to interface it to an autopilot control head or to Raymarine product which would support displaying heading or rudder angle. As Raymarine can no longer provide parts and service for the Type 300 Autopilot Course Computers, a failure of the autopilot course computer's circuitry would necessitate that the autopilot course computer be replaced.

RE: Type 300 Course Computer 12V
This may be a double post, however I did not receive confirmation that the first one was sent.

Hi Chuck,
I'm hoping you can clear up a bit of confusion I have re. compatibility,i.e., I have a type 300 CC and a newly installed ST8001 display. Before I begin any diagnoses of the symptoms, described below,I'd like you read and disagree (I hope) with a previous post from the old RM forum:

No, the ST8001 is not compatible with the Type 300 course computer.  Other than the RP650, for rotary option, the ST6001/2 and ST7001/2. END–
My problem: The drive disconnects intermittently and display goes to standby, seems to
happen more often the longer it's on. The ST8001 is in the cockpit,a ST6000 is a repeater at the nav. station. Taking the ST6000 out of the loop seems to make no difference.

RE: Type 300 Course Computer 12V
Hi Chuck,
Understood, thankyou. I'd like to use what I have, which is the type 300 CC, ST6000, ST8001,ST60 wind,ST50 speed, multi, GPS,NavData and Depth. All are working except for the compatibility issue of the ST8001 (which I mistakenly purchased thinking it was compatible) My questions are: What ACC's are compatible with the ST8001 (which I'll locate on the used market) and can I configure the 300 ACC with the ST6000 and use the ST8001 as a repeater until I find a later compatible CU ?
I'd like to update to a new system, but until finances permit your help with these legacy products is much appreciated.
Regards, Jack

RE: Type 300 Course Computer 12V
Jack,

Of the autopilot course computers previously specified, the M81132 Type 2 Mechanical Linear Drive is only compatible with a S3 or S3G Autopilot Course Computer. The remaining devices which you have listed are also compatible with a a S3 or S3G Autopilot Course Computer.
