S1G autopilot controller
Hi All, have an AP system that includes a E12115 autopilot controller, it was installed /commissioned late 2004, seems like yesterday, but it's never been exactly right. Biggest malfunction is that you would be running w AP engaged and boat would start turning, right most of the time, sometimes to left. Redid dealer setup and seatrial, no improvement. Replaced fluxgate compass with a used part last year, just to see if it helped, it didn't. Just lately it doesn't even want to boot up, without flipping power off and on numerous times. Figured out that it has V3 software and should have V11, isn't that correct? Can't imagine what that would have to do with present problem but thought I should explore doing upgrade first. Understand that upgrade is a repair center procedure, is it still available? Also read thread about removing gyro and redoing setup and seatrial to see if gyro's bad. Will try that, if you think it will help. Hate to just throw it away, Thanks for your help,

RE: S1G autopilot controller
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Dave,
Unfortunately, parts and service are no longer available for the S1G. Additionally, I don't believe that software would be responsible for either of the reported issues. I would recommend that the Raymarine’s web siteautopilot's rudder reference transducer be tested. Should the rudder reference transducer pass tests, then you may want to try testing the performance of the autopilot without its gryo. This may be accomplished unplugging the gyro from the processor board (it's the only component which is connected to the processor board via a cable w/plug). Should the problem abate, then it would appear that the course computer's gyro has failed. Using the S1G without a gyro will simply permit the autopilot to function as a S1 autopilot. However, should the problem persist thereafter, then it would appear that the course computer has suffered a failure necessitating its replacement. Drive units installed for use with SmartPilots may also be used with Raymarine's Evolution Autopilots. |
