AIS650 will not exit Silent Mode
AIS650 will not exit Silent Mode

When an AIS650 is operating in Silent Mode, it Status LED will be illuminated and be colored blue. When an AIS650 is not operating in Silent Mode and has acquired a GPS position FIX, its Status LED will be illuminated and will be colored green. Should an AIS650 be interfaced to an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD and the MFD not be able to command the AIS650 out of Silent Mode, then:
- Verify that the MFD has been interfaced to the AIS650 via SeaTalkng or NMEA 0183, but via both communications protocols
- Verify that the AIS650 has been updated with v1.15 (040200.01.15.01) or later software. If not, the AIS650's software should be updated with the latest available Raymarine product software update. The AIS650's currently installed software version may be verified via the command sequence HOME->SET-UP->MAINTENANCE->DIAGNOSTICS->SELECT DEVICE; Select the AIS650 from the devices list to show its detailed diagnostic data. Should the AIS650 be interfaced to the MFD via NMEA 0183 communications protocol, then the AIS650 may be interfaced to a PC (via USB) and the ProAIS2 software PC software application packaged with the AIS650 may be used to verify the version of software which is installed within the AIS650
- Verify that the AIS650’s Silent Mode leads (orange and light green) are not creating a closed circuit with one another. If connected to a physical switch (not recommended for AIS650/500 transceivers which have been interfaced to a Raymarine MFD), then verify that the switch has been configured to the OFF position and additionally verify the open circuit using a resistance meter
- Verify that no MFDs other than a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs have been interfaced to the SeaTalkng backbone
- Verify that the AIS650’s GPS antenna has been installed in a location affording it an unobstructed view of the skies overhead
- Using the ProAIS2 software provided with the AIS650, verify that the station’s MMSI has been programmed into the AIS650 and that the AIS650 has acquired a GPS position FIX. While the first item may be addressed by a Raymarine installer, failure of the second item would indicate a problem with either the AIS650’s GPS receiver circuitry or a failure of the AIS650’s Passive GPS antenna, necessitating that the AIS650 be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced or its GPS antenna replaced repeceively.
- Verify that if the AIS650 is disconnected from the system (unplug the AIS650 from the SeaTalkng backbone (if interfaced via SeaTalkng) or change the BAUD rate of the MFD’s NMEA 0183 port which is connected to the AIS650 to “NMEA 4800” (if interfaced via NMEA 0183; miss-matched BAUD rate will break communications between the MFD and the AIS650). After doing so, switch the AIS650 OFF and then ON again. Monitor the AIS650’s status LED to determine whether turns green. If not and the previously listed items have been addressed, then the AIS650 would be deemed to have suffered a failure, necessitating that it be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.
