a65 replacement
I would like to upgrade my a-65 multifunction on my Robalo R245 Walkaround with a new unit with chirp sonar. I do not have radar nor a hardtop on my boat. What equipment that I currently have needs to be replaced? I have a new P58 transducer I replaced last year can that also remain with the new system as a second transducer?
As the units vary a97, c97, and e97 what is the logical unit choice for replacement?
As the cost increases for each what are the benefits associated with the increased cost?

Thanks

Michael

RE: a65 replacement
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Mike,

The A102138 P58 is a conical 50/200 kHz transducer designed for use with the following:
- DSM25 (used with A60/A65 Displays ... note the case of the letters)
- DS400X/500X/600X Fishfinders
- DSM30/DSM300/CP300/CP370 Sounder Modules - requires 33-562-01 Adapter
- ax7/cx7/e7D/ex7/eSx7 MFDs

Please note that the a97, c97, and e97 feature internal ClearPulse fishfinder sounder circuitry, not CHIRP fishfinder Sounder circuitry. Should the vessel currently be equipped with the A102138 P58, then this transducer may be interfaced to an ax7, cx7, ex7, or eSx7 MFD to provide similar fishfinder imaging and performance to that which you have experienced previously with the A65 w/DSM25. If seeking a MFD with CHIRP/DownVision fishfinder sounder circuitry supporting operation in depths up to 600', then an ax8, cx8, ex8, or eSx8 MFD w/compatible CHIRP/DownVision Transducer would be recommended. If seeking CHIRP fisfinder sonar supporting operation in depths greater than 600', then an ax5, cx5, e7, ex5, or eSx5 MFD with a CP470/CP570 and compatible CHIRP Transducer(s) would be recommended.

RE: a65 replacement
Thank You for your reply and the detailed explanation. It is much appreciated!

I am going to replace the A65 and want the chirp sounder technology.
I am leaning toward the eS 98 series as it has both touchscreen and keypad controls. To have the unit function correctly what other items do I need to replace from my existing unit

To upgrade to an eS98 do I need to acquire a sounder module and transducer as well?

Thanks Again

RE: a65 replacement
Mike,

As the ax8 MFDs and eSx8 MFDs, feature internal 600' CHIRP/DownVision Fishfinder sonar circuitry, a CP100 will not be needed. However, a compatible transducer such as the CPT-100 will need to be purchased for use with one of these MFDs.
