[CA11] ais 700 and old C80 chartplotter
Hallo, Im Antonio, new user, I
I have a question about my new ais 700 transreceiver and my old chartplotter Raymarine C80, nmea 0183
How I've to do the connections? I have to connect the nmea 183 cable from the ais 700 to my smart pilot Raymarine where I saw a lot of " entrance" nmea out+ nmea in - etc or I have to connect the ais 700 direct into the C80 display? in this case, where can I buy this cable? my chartplotter is outside on my sailboat ( 42 feet ) and the Ais700 is located inside, so in this case I need a long cable.
Thank you in advance for the help.
Ciao
Antonio.

RE: [CA11] ais 700 and old C80 chartplotter
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Antonio,

Raymarine autopilots are not designed to bridge AIS data from a NMEA 0183 AIS source to SeaTalk or SeaTalkng. Irrespective of this fact, SeaTalk communications protocol does not support communications of AIS data and the software of C-Series Classic MFDs is not designed to process NMEA 2000 PGNs containing AIS data. The AIS receiver or transceiver must be interfaced to the MFD's NMEA 0183 communications interface in the manner specified within the FAQ found here. Commonly available marine grade twisted pair signal cable is recommended when seeking to extend the NMEA 0183 leads of a product.

RE: [CA11] ais 700 and old C80 chartplotter
toniocask,

Included within the package of each C/E-Series Classic MFD was a R08004 5-Way NMEA 0183 Cable. This cable's plug was designed to be mated to the MFD's NMEA 0813 socket. Should you have misplaced this cable, then it is recommended that your authorized Raymarine dealer / distributor be contacted for availability and pricing data for this cable. US customers may also contact Raymarine Order Services (orderdesk@raymarine.com; 603.324.7900; choose option 1 (Order Services) and then option 2 (Consumers)) for this information.

The pin-out for the R08004 5-Way NMEA 0183 Cable's plug (from which the MFD's NMEA 0183 socket may be ascertained) is printed within the C-Series Classic MFD's Installation Guide and is shown below.

RE: [CA11] ais 700 and old C80 chartplotter
Many thanks. Now it is clear for me.
Last question please, when connecting the pro ais via USB PC to the ais700 all is green, but I can seen other boats maximum for 13 nautical miles, it is correct? The VSWR ratio is 1.3:1
On my older system, a passive ais Furuno on my c80 display were showed boats at 20/25 nautical miles.
May I have a problem or it is because I do a diagnostic trial with the pc?
Thank you

toniocask,

The range which you have specified is not atypical and is dependent upon the concentration of AIS targets in the area of one's vessels, the height of transmitter and receiver antennas, and the power of the transmitters involved. In locations having heavy AIS concentrations, the system will monitor the closest 100 targets.
