Radar mounting height / angle
The vertical beam angle of a radomes and open array radar scanners is 25 degrees (12.5 degrees above and 12.5 degrees below horizontal). Failure to account for this vertical beam angle may cause radiated energy to be directed into the hard top or cabin roof, reducing radar performance. Installing the radome or open array radar pedestal on a mount which increases the height of the radome or open array radar pedestal above the hard top or cabin roof may permit the radome or open array radar pedestal to be installed further back from the forward edge of the hard top or cabin roof. Use of such mounts may also assist reducing interference or blind spots caused from other objects installed on the hard top or cabin roof. Finally, when installing a radome or open array radar pedestal, bow rise angle should be noted. The aft end of the radome or open array radar pedestal may then be shimmed to compensate for bow rise angle that the boat would typically experience at the boat speed at which radar is expected to be most frequently used.
