E-120 Version 5.69 Interface to AIS 650

Rick,

As the saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words" ... the AIS status icon indicating that the AIS is not operating in Silent Mode (i.e. it is transmitting your vessel's AIS data) and that the AIS Dangerous Targets Alarm has been configured OFF. Should the AIS650 not receive a heartbeat message periodically from the E120 MFD, then the reported AIS Connection Lost alarm will occur. The first action in resolving the issue would be to verify that:
1) the AIS650 has been updated with the latest available Raymarine product software update
2) that the AIS650 has NOT been configured to transmit NMEA 0183 GNSS sentences along with the NMEA 0183 AIS sentences being transmitted to the MFD ... it will be necessary to interface the AIS650 to a PC via a USB cable and then to run the ProAIS2 software to verify/modify this setting
3) intermittent NMEA 0183 cabling connections between the MFD and the AIS650

Should all of the above have been verified/addressed and should the problem persist, then it would be recommended that the AIS650 be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.
