RE: AIS on i70
firstlight38,
The E70196 VHF NMEA 0183 to STng Converter Kit cannot be used to bridge data transmitted from a NMEA 0183 talker (i.e. the GX2150) to a SeaTalkng backbone. The E70196 VHF NMEA 0183 to STng Converter Kit exclusively supports NMEA 0183 transmission (not reception) and is very limited in the NMEA 0183 sentences that it will transmit (i.e. only the most common NMEA 0183 GPS data sentences (GGA, RMC, VTG) required by DSC VHF radios). Autopilots are neither designed to process NMEA 0183 sentences including AIS data (ex. VDO, VDM, ALR, etc.) nor support 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications. Please see my initial response for a recommended SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 data bridging device supporting NMEA 0183 AIS sentences. |
