AIS650 or AIS700 transceiver not transmitting own vessel data
AIS650 or AIS700 transceiver not transmitting own vessel data

NOTE: The latest available AIS650 software as well as that for your other Raymarine products may be found here.

Raymarine supplied ProAIS/ProAIS2 programming/diagnostics software with the AIS500 and AIS650/ AIS700 respectively to support programming the AIS transceiver's static data as well as for troubleshooting of these AIS transceivers. This software may also be downloaded from the AIS650/ AIS700's software update web page. AIS transceivers may not transmit ownship data to other vessels if any of the following conditions exist:
- insufficient power is being supplied to the AIS transceiver... measure the loaded system voltage at the time that the fault is determined to ensure that it is being supplied with 9.6V - 31.2V DC. If not, it is recommended that power connections be inspected from the AIS650/ AIS700 through the fuse/breaker panel the batteries to ensure that all connections are continuous, free of corrosion, and tight.
- if the transceiver is an AIS650/ AIS700, then it may not have been updated with the latest software ... the latest software for the AIS650/ AIS700 and instructions for loading it may be downloaded from the AIS650/ AIS700 software update web page.
- the AIS transceiver's GPS receiver circuitry is not receiving sufficient GPS signal strength via its supplied GPS antenna ... Class B AIS transceivers are not designed to use GPS data from the vessel's navigation system. They are designed to be interfaced to a dedicated passive GPS antenna. Use the ProAIS/ProAIS2 software to determine whether the AIS transceiver is able to determine a GPS position FIX for your vessel. If not, then verify that the AIS transceiver's GPS antenna has been located where it will be afforded an unobstructed view of the skies overhead. If so, then verify that the antenna's coaxial cable has not been damaged or altered. If not, then it is recommended that the AIS transceiver be sent to Raymarine's Product Repair Center to be bench tested/serviced.
- the VSWR of the AIS transceiver's VHF antenna is too high ... check the antenna VSWR using the Diagnostics tab for the ProAIS2/ProAIS application or with a VSWR meter. The reported VSWR of the antenna w/extensions should have a VSWR between 1.0:1 - 2.0:1. Please note that a VSWR value will not be reported until the AIS transceiver attempts to transmit ownship data. High VSWR can be caused by either the antenna or the cabling and connectors. Some VHF Antennae are also unsuitable for AIS operation and so the operating frequency of the antenna should be checked to ensure it will operate at the frequency generally used by AIS transmissions - 162MHz.
- the AIS transceiver has suffered an internal failure ... should the items listed above have been checked and the fault has not been identified, then the AIS transceiver should be sent to Raymarine's Product Repair Center to be bench tested/serviced.
