Interfacing differential NMEA 0183 devices to single ended NMEA 0183 devices

Most marine electronics products having a NMEA 0183 communications interface feature a standard differential NMEA 0183 v2.0 communications interface (i.e. dedicated Signal A (+) and Signal B (-) terminals or leads for each NMEA 0183 channel). However some third party marine electronics products products (ex. entry level Garmin devices, etc.) feature a single ended NMEA 0183 communications interface. where the NMEA 0183 communications channel only features a Signal + lead/terminal. Should a Raymarine product's NMEA 0183 channel need to be interfaced to a third party product a single ended NMEA 0183 communications interface, then the Raymarine product's NMEA 0183 Signal A (+) lead / terminal will be interfaced to the third party product's NMEA 0183 Signal + lead / terminal. Additionally, the Raymarine product's NMEA 0183 Signal B (-) lead/terminal will be interfaced to the third party product's NMEA 0183 Data Common lead / terminal or the third part product's ground lead which in turn will be interfaced to -12VDC.
