RE: [CA] WHICH RADAR UNIT IS RECOMMENDED?
Dave,

For this application, I would recommend that a Quantum or Quantum2 (preferred) Radome be considered. The Quantum2 radomes feature Doppler collision avoidance technology. The Quantum 2 next generation CHIRP pulse compression radar by Raymarine provides superior target awareness at both long and extremely short ranges. Using advanced Doppler processing with MFDs running LightHouse v3.4.x and later software, the system instantly highlights moving radar contacts and color codes them to indicate whether they are inbound or outbound. Quantum with Doppler makes it easy to discern potentially dangerous targets when navigating in high-traffic areas. Quantum and Quantum2 radomes may be installed to communicate with the system via Wi-Fi or via a wired Ethernet communications interface. The Wi-Fi communications interface of these radomes has the potential of simplifying the installation. The links to the Quantum and Quantum 2 radome web pages provided within this paragraph provide additional detail on the features of these two radomes.

It is recommended that a HS5 RayNet Network Switch be installed. For those seeking to install a cabled interface to the radome, I typically recommend that an appropriate length of Digital Radar Cable terminated with a RayNet (F) plug on one end and an A80308 Power / Data Adapter Cable be installed. The Digital Radar Cable's RayNet (F) plug will then be interfaced the HS5 RayNet Network Switch. Each MFD would be interfaced to the HS5 RayNet Network Switch via an appropriate length of RayNet (F) to RayNet (F) Cable. While the thermal camera will also be interfaced to the HS5 RayNet Network Switch, it will be necessary to have you specify the model of thermal camera owned or that will be purchased in order to specify the cabling that will be required to do so. For this application, it would be recommended that a FLIR M132, M232, or MD625 thermal camera be considered for this application.

The analog video camera will be interfaced video input cable of the MFD on which you desire to view its video.

The DownVision transducer's cable will be plugged directly into to the Transducer socket of either of the eSx8 MFDs.
