RE: [CA11] Connecting GX2200 to Es78
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Nick,

Unfortunately, the GX2200 does not feature a NMEA 2000 communications interface. If seeking to interface the GX2200 to a NMEA 2000 backbone and/or additionally support displaying AIS data on an i70/i70S MFID, a NMEA 2000 data bridging device supporting 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-AIS) would be required. If the NMEA 2000 data bridging device is wired to the GX2200's 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications interface in a manner which would support bidirectional communications, the not only would the MFD receive AIS data via the NMEA 2000 backbone, but the GX2200 would receive GPS data in support of its DSC and AIS features ... see page 21 of the GX2200's Owner's manual ... the NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 data bridging device would be substituted in place of the GPS receiver shown within the diagram. The referenced FAQ provides alternative recommendations for interfacing devices having a NMEA 0183 communications interface to the system ... in this case it would typically be recommended that an Actisense NGW-1-ISO-AIS NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridging device be used to support 38400 BAUD bidirectional communications with the GX2200 (see page 21 of the GX2200's manual). Doing so will support supplying GPS data to the GX2200 as well as support supplying AIS data to the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone for use by the marine electronics system.

While this response identifies solutions available from Actisense, other third party NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 and NMEA 2000 to Wi-Fi / USB data bridging products may provide similar capabilities.

Alternatively, please note that it is indeed possible to interface the MFD to the VHF radio / AIS receiver via the MFD's NMEA 0183 Port 1 to support bidirectional communications between the VHF radio / AIS receiver.
- connect the MFD's NMEA 0183 OUT1+ (yellow) lead to the NMEA 0183 IN+ (blue) lead of the GX2200
- connect the MFD's NMEA 0183 OUT1- (brown) lead to the NMEA 0183 IN- (green) lead of the GX2200
- connect the MFD's NMEA 0183 IN+ (white) lead to the NMEA 0183 OUT+ (gray) lead of the GX2200
- connect the MFD's NMEA 0183 IN- (green) lead to the NMEA 0183 OUT- (brown) lead of the GX2200
- Configure the GX2200's NMEA DATA IN/OUT setting to 38400 BPS.
- Configure the MFD's NMEA 0183 Port 1 Setting (HOME->SET-UP->SYSTEM SETTINGS->NMEA SET-UP->NMEA INPUT PORT 1) to AIS 38400.
- To view AIS objects within the MFD's Chart application, configure the AIS overlay (MENU->PRESENTATION->OVERLAYS->AIS) to ON.

Should the problem persist, then please specify which version of software is presently installed within your eS78 MFD.
