[CA11] GPS data to p70Rs autopilot control head
I have the new autopilot Evolution 150 kit with a p70Rs autopilot control head. I would like to use the features that GPS gives. The auto turning, fishing patterns circle etc.. Anyway my GPS fishfinder/head is only an NMEA 0183. It has a simple GPS data + and - that it. It is connected to my VHF radio and work good giving it GPS info.
1. can I use this and pipe the info into the backbone of the seatalkng, or do I need the newer version of the NMEA 2000. I'm completely in the weeds here. I need a reliable system as I am a charter captain and need this to work well not just ok. The evolution 150 is awesome by the way. |

RE: [CA11] GPS data to p70Rs autopilot control head
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Pknotlost,
Q1. can I use this and pipe the info into the backbone of the seatalkng, or do I need the newer version of the NMEA 2000. A1. It is indeed possible to do as you have suggested. As the Evolution autopilots do not support NMEA 0183 communications, a NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 data bridging device supporting 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-STNG, etc.) would need be be added to the system's backbone. The NMEA 0183 output of the GPS would then be paralleled to the NMEA 0183 input leads of the NMEA 0183 data bridging device. |
