[CA11] Axiom Pro and Standard horizon VHF 1600
Just a couple of questions on connecting a standard horizon VHF 1600 to and Axiom Pro for GPS input into the VHF for the DSC Emergency call works.
I see on the Axiom Pro wiring there is NMEA 0183 and the Starndard horizon is NMEA 0183 compatible but Standard Horizon in their wiring diagrams states it as RS422 or RS232. Pages 16-19 of attached Standard Horizon Manual.

1.I believe I should be able to use the NMEA 0183 of the Axiom and RS422 connetion for this to work as the radio requires a 4800 baud rate which I believe the Axiom pro unit is or can be adjusted to.

2.I am not sure about the version of NMEA 0183 that the Axiom Pro is using as the VHF radio can read NMEA 0183 version 2.0 or higher.

3. Can the Axiom Pro be using both the NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 at the same time?

Thank you for the assistance,

Lance.

RE: [CA11] Axiom Pro and Standard horizon VHF 1600
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum lwilson:

To interface these products to one another:
- connect the MFD's NMEA 0183 OUT1+ (yellow) lead to the NMEA 0183 IN+ (blue) lead of the GX1600
- connect the MFD's NMEA 0183 OUT1- (brown) lead to the NMEA 0183 IN- (green) lead of the GX1600
- connect the MFD's NMEA 0183 IN1+ (white) lead to the NMEA 0183 OUT+ (gray) lead of the GX1600
- connect the MFD's NMEA 0183 IN1- (green) lead to the NMEA 0183 OUT- (brown) lead of the GX1600

Doing so will not only permit the VHF radio to receive GPS data, but also for the MFD to receive DSC position reports from the VHF radio.

Q1.I believe I should be able to use the NMEA 0183 of the Axiom and RS422 connetion for this to work as the radio requires a 4800 baud rate which I believe the Axiom pro unit is or can be adjusted to.
A1. See the note above. Please note that the default setting of the Axiom Pro/Axiom XL MFD's NMEA 0183 ports is 4800 BAUD. The setting is configured via the command sequence HOME->SETTINGS->NETWORK->NMEA SET-UP->NMEA PORT 1

Q2.I am not sure about the version of NMEA 0183 that the Axiom Pro is using as the VHF radio can read NMEA 0183 version 2.0 or higher.
A2. These products are indeed compatible.

Q3. Can the Axiom Pro be using both the NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 at the same time?
A3. Yes.

Chuck,
Great to know.
Thank you for the pin out data.
Will connect and check it out.
Just Glad it works with out adding or having to purchase add on's.

Wish the Yamaha to Axiom pro would be as simple not requiring a Command link set up for $1000 and Yamaha command gauges for the Raymarine system to listen in on the communication for it to display the same info on the Axiom Pro 6" away. But that is another issue.

Love the Raymarine product and especially the support your group gives us on the forum.

Thank you again.

Lance.

A. In fact, this is not the case. While it is necessary to install a powered and properly terminated Command Link or Command Link Plus backbone, it is not necessary to install any Yamaha gauges. Raymarine's ECI-100 or Yamaha's Engine Gateway may then be interfaced between the Command Link / Command Link Plus backbone and the marine electronics backbone. Should you need further guidance, please create a new thread to address this additional topic.
