Which NMEA "depth" will be displayed?
I have an E80 classic, software 5.69.

Depth is provided via NMEA. Both DBT and DPT (including an offset) sentences are present.

What will the E80 display as "depth"? DBY value? DPT including offset?

Thanks.

RE: Which NMEA "depth" will be displayed?
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum danderer,

The Depth Databar/Data Application Data item within Raymarine MFDs will be populated with depth which has been adjusted for the depth offset. As such, should the system be supplied with an 18.6 ft DBT and a -3.0 depth offset, then the Depth Databar/Data Application Data item within Raymarine MFDs will be populated with with the value 15.6 ft.

In this case where is the offset acquired from?

I see no option on the MFD to set a depth offset when the depth source is NMEA.

The DBT sentence has no syntax for an offset. The DPT sentence does.

Can I then conclude the E80 will use the DPT (including offset) if available?

(To be clear, the source of the NMEA depth data is a non-Ray, non-Seatalk unit.)

Thanks.

RE: Which NMEA "depth" will be displayed?
danderer,

Unlike depth is provided from a Raymarine fishfinding product or Raymarine instrument, Raymarine products do not support application of a depth offset to depth data received from a NMEA 0183 source of depth data. While the NMEA 0183 DBT sentence does not feature an offset, the DPT sentence does indeed feature an offset. Should the MFD receive a DPT sentence with a populated offset field, then the Depth data item reported by the MFD will be adjusted using the offset contained within the received DPT sentence.
