NMEA 0183 Data Rate on RL80C?
I know it’s old. But it works. And it’s the only place I can pick up an NMEA 0183 output to connect to my non GPS VHF. But I can’t find the output data rate specified for NMEA 0183 for the RL80C. I need 4800 baud. That’s what my VHF needs. Had it connected to my AIS transponder before realizing that only outputs 38400 baud. Ugh.

So... does the RL80C output NMEA 0183 at 4800 baud? Please say yes...

Hi Steve,

The RL80C outputs NMEA0183 data at the baud rate of 4800. It should work just fine with the VHF once they are connected.

Thanks. On eBay I found a cable for the RL80C for NMEA 0183 OUT. This weekend I will be splicing it into the radio's NMEA 0183 IN. Tired of my VHF screaming an alarm about no GPS 10 minutes into every voyage!
