Testing an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD's NMEA 0183 port(s)

A MFD's NMEA 0183 Port(s) may be tested by performing a wrap-around test. Example: to test a MFD's NMEA 0183 Port 1, the MFD NMEA Cable's NMEA IN+ lead will be interfaced to the MFD NMEA Cable's NMEA OUT+ lead. Additionally, the MFD NMEA Cable's NMEA IN- lead will be interfaced to the MFD NMEA Cable's NMEA OUT- lead. After verifying the the MFD is receiving a GPS position FIX, then the MFD's Diagnostics features may be used to verify that the MFD is receiving data. For Raymarine's a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs, the MFD's NMEA 0183 Rx buffer may be monitored as follows (while older generations of Raymarine MFDs support NMEA 0183 buffer monitoring, the command sequence to monitor the buffer will differ):

- HOME->SET-UP->MAINTENANCE->DIAGNOSTICS->INTERFACES->NMEA 0183-x->BUFFER;
- DIRECTION->RX;
- START BUFFER

Should NMEA 0183 sentences preceded by "RX" (receive) appear within the buffer, then MFD's NMEA 0183 port is deemed to be operational. Should the MFD's NMEA 0183 port be found to not be operational, then the MFD will need to be replaced or returned to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.
