Pathfinder connected to eS97 seatalkng network
I an working on a sailboat that we are upgrading with a eS97. The boat has ST60 + Speed, depth, wind, Tridata, Raystar125, Pathfinder Radar/chartplotter. I plan on using two Seatalk/Seatalkng converters. I will install the Seatalkng backbone between the eS97 and the two converters. The Pathfinder will be connected to the converter through the seatalk cable to provide position and waypoint information. I have never connected the pathfinder this way. Will this work?? All the other seatalk devices have worked fine in the past.

Thanks

RE: Pathfinder connected to eS97 seatalkng network
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum George,

While it is certainly possible to interface the ST60 + Speed, depth, wind, Tridata, and Raystar 125 GPS Sensor to a SeaTalkng backbone via a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter(s), a Pathfinder display may not respond to Stop GoTo or Stop Follow commands initiated by an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD. As with Pathfinder Series MFDs which had been interfaced to C/E-Series Classic MFDs, it may be necessary when ceasing to stop navigation to additionally command Stop GoTo or Stop Follow on the Pathfinder Series Display. While alphanumeric GPS data, instrument data, and system state data may available to the Pathfinder Series Display when so interfaced, waypoint, route, and track data cannot be transferred between an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD and a Pathfinder Series Display.

Thanks for the information, we will be powering the system next weekend and see what happens.

RE: Pathfinder connected to eS97 seatalkng network
With the Pathfinder on the seatalk buss and the seatalk buss connected to the Seatalkng buss using the converter how will the pathfinder react to position information that is sent from the Raystar125 as well as the internal GPS of the es97?
The eS97 can pick which data source to use but the Pathfinder can not do that. I will assume that the converter will pass the position infromation from the eS97 GPS.

RE: Pathfinder connected to eS97 seatalkng network
George,

When updated with v2.01 or later software, data such as Speed, Depth, Wind, Heading & GPS bridged from SeaTalk1 to SeaTalkng by the SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter can be selected as the system data source. However, as the legacy devices having a SeaTalk communications interface only support a single source of any type of data, the equipment must be installed in a manner such that the SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter may control which source of GPS data will be passed to the SeaTalk bus that the Pathfinder Series display will be interfaced to. Accordingly, the Raystar 125 GPS Sensor would need to be interfaced to the system by one of the following methods:

- install the Raystar 125 GPS Sensor in a manner supporting NMEA 0183 communications to one of the MFD's NMEA 0183 ports which has been configured for 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications. This will require that the Raystar 125 GPS Sensor be powered from a switched 12 VDC power circuit.

- install a second SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter within the SeaTalkng backbone and then interface the Raystar 125 GPS Sensor in a manner supporting SeaTalk communications to the SeaTalk (yellow) socket of the second SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter.
