Reprogramming AIS 500
I am trying to reprogram my AIS 500 with a new MMSI number and boat name and details. The previous owner’s information remains in the unit after I add my details via the Raymarine software and the serial cable. Does this unit have to go to Raymarine for reprogramming or can a local certified installation technician do it? If it has to go back, do I follow the normal repair return procedure? Thanks for any help that you can provide.
Best wishes,
Brian

RE: Reprogramming AIS 500
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Brian,

Within the US, FCC regulations restrict removal and entry of MMSIs into CLASS B AIS transceivers to marine electronics dealers, marine electronics installers, marine electronics repair centers, and FCC licensed technicians. Accordingly, it is recommended that the AIS500's MMSI be removed and the new MMSI entered by a Certified Raymarine Installer or by Raymarine’s Product Repair Center.
