Axiom 600w sounder
I am going to replace my current system which is a c80 w/dsm250 that is paired with the B744V transducer. I am planning on keeping the B744 and connect to the Axiom 9RV.

Will the performance of the B744v be improved over the aging DSM250, how will its performance compare to the Chirp sounder in the TV100 transducer.

I generally fish in about 60 to 120ft off the NC coast with the occasional trip to the gulf stream with about 300 to 500ft depth.

RE: Axiom 600w sounder
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Ihcman,

Q1. I am going to replace my current system which is a c80 w/dsm250 that is paired with the B744V transducer. I am planning on keeping the B744 and connect to the Axiom 9RV. Will the performance of the B744v be improved over the aging DSM250.
A1. The fishfinder imagery produced from the B744V when interfaced to the Axiom RV MFD and configured for viewing 50kHz or 200kHz sounder imagery should be very similar to that obtained when previously using the C80 MFD with DSM250.

Q2. How will its performance compare to the Chirp sounder in the TV100 transducer?
A2. When using an Axiom RV Y-Cable to interface both the B744V and RV-100 transducer, the CHIRP conical sonar will not be supported by the system. Instead, the MFD will support 50kHz / 200kHz conical sonar, DownVision, SideVision, and RealVision 3D.

RE: Axiom 600w sounder
Which would be better for my area. Run the Chirp that is in the RV and omit the B744, or use the B744?
Thanks

RE: Axiom 600w sounder
Ihcman,

I would expect that the performance of High CHIRP sonar would be very similar to that of the 50 kHz / 200kHz sonar in the depths specified. However, it is quite possible that the bottom tracking at speed approaching and while operating on plane will be better with the 50 kHz / 200kHz transducer ... particularly when considering installation of a transom mounted RealVision transducer. Accordingly, it is recommended that the B744V be used with the Axiom RV MFD. Doing so will additionally provide the system with speed through water data in support of trolling.
