[CA] Can a Es125 and a Gs165 share a radar?
What is (if possible) the correct and best mode to connect both a new Es 125 and a Gs 1`65 share a new 48 mile HD color radar? (so they can see the same radar image) (Also will assume that the radar (power) will need to be on a separate breaker...?)
Thanks
Steve Neumann

RE: [CA] Can a Es125 and a Gs165 share a radar?
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Steve,

When interfaced via an Ethernet network, the eS-Series MFDs and gS-Series MFDs are designed to share all system resources (except for NTSC/PAL video) and data. Should one of the gS-Series Ethernet Network sockets not be currently in use, then Ethernet Network socket of the gS-Series MFD may be interfaced to one of the Ethernet Network sockets of the eS-Series MFD via an appropriate length of RayNet (F) to RayNet (F) Cable. However, should all of the Ethernet Network sockets of the gS-Series MFD be utilized, then it would be recommended that the cable that the Digital Radar Cable be interfaced to a HS5 RayNet Network Switch. Then one Ethernet Network socket of the eS-Series MFD and one Ethernet Network socket of the gS-Series MFD would each be interfaced to the HS5 RayNet Network Switch via an appropriate length of RayNet (F) to RayNet (F) Cable.

RE: [CA] Can a Es125 and a Gs165 share a radar?
CHUCK, thanks for the update; However, is it BEST(?) to cable down the mast (on a large sailboat), to the HS-5 Switch mounted outside of the mast at the step, then connect to the backbone so that the radar can also (?) be shared over the two gps units, or best to take it to the largest unit first (the GS165) and distribute from there? Thanks,

Steve,

From the standpoint of system redundancy, when a system features more than one MFD, it is considered to be a best installation practice to network all compatible MFDs and peripherals having an Ethernet communications interface to a HS5 RayNet Network Switch(es). Should the system feature more than on HS5 RayNet Network Switch and more than one gS-Series MFD, then it would be recommended that one each gS-Series MFDs be interfaced to the gigabit port of a HS5 RayNet Network Switch and that the gS-Series MFDs then be daisy chained to one another via an appropriate length of RayNet (F) to RayNet (F) Cable
