[CA] DSM300 B164 vs Axiom & B60

[CA] DSM300 B164 vs Axiom & B60
Just want to clarify a few things. I currently have a GS165 with a DSM300 and P66 and an Axiom 9" with RV-100
raymarine 48" HD color radar
Evolution EV-200 autoilot
RMK-9 Remote
32' sportfisher with twin outboards

I plan to upgrade to Lighthouse 3 and combine the two MFD's. I have learned that the RV100's purpose is for trolling and drifting. So the plan is to keep the RV-100, get rid of the P66 in favor of a B60 or B164.

Option 1: The 1000watt B164 could be driven by the DSM300, but I read about endless problems in the past getting those two components to work together. Have these compatibility issues been resolved?

Option 2: Let the Axiom drive the 600watt P60 and eliminate the DSM300.

Main objective is to maintain bottom lock running at 30-35mph, being able to pick up bait [censored], fish etc as we are running offshore. once we are fishing I will rely on the Axiom chirp, down vision and side vision split up on the two MFD's

I'd also like to add a high accuracy temp sensor, like the B17. Any other recommendations for a high accuracy temp sensor?

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Firewood,

While the B60 solution has its merits, I'm a huge fan of 1kW transducers. Have you considered the M260 In-Hull. I have one mated to a DSM300 on my own boat and its performance is simply amazing. I have regularly bottom at speeds over 45 MPH! Should your DSM300 be in good shape, then I would recommend considering this option.

Speed and temp may be added by adding an E66072 B120-ST800 speed/temp thru-hull.

after looking at M260 it seems fairly simple to install. I figure i have a nice safe & quite spot for it midship next to my water tank.

the b164 and m260 are basically the same price, there are tons of good reviews on the m260.

Ok, so the M260 plugs straight into my DSM300, then my DSM300 is plugged into my GS16.

I just need a cable to network the axiom 9" and the GS16

I know the gs16 has a few Ethernet connections on the back,

Once the gs16 is upgraded to Lighthouse 3, and the two MFD are networked together, which would be the Master? my radar is plugged into the GS16.

A1. Correct. A cable assembly constructed from an A80272 RayNet(M) to SeaTalkhs (M) Adapter and an appropriate length of RayNet (F) to RayNet (F) Cable would be used to interface these products to one another.

A4. The system's data master will be that MFD which is interfaced to the system's SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone. Should the system not feature a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone, then either MFD may be designated as the system's Data Master.

simple enough.

The GS16 has the backbone, with the autopilot, gps antenna, rmk-9 remote
so that will be my master.

OK - So it seems all my raynet ports on my Gs16 are used already

I have radar plugged in
I have RMK remote plugged in
I have my DSM300 plugged in.

What are my options for networking my GS16 to my Axiom 9"
I was planning to upgrade the GS16 to Lighthouse 3

I have the raynet to raynet cable plugged into the Axiom but not place
to connect to the Gs16. I hope I dont have to add a raynet hub

I did purchase the M260 so I can eliminate the P66 and rely on the
M260 and the Chirp of the Axiom.

Should all three of the gS-Series MFD's Ethernet (RayNet) sockets current be in use as you have specified, then the only option available would be to add a HS5 RayNet Network Switch to the system if it is your intention to:
- share cartography between the systems
- share the radar transducer between the systems
- share fishfinder sonar resources between the systems
- remotely control the Axiom MFD and the gS-Series MFD via the RMK-9/10

In such cases, I would typically recommend that each MFD, the Digital Radar Cable, the DSM300, and the RMK-9/10 each be interfaced to the HS5 RayNet Network Switch. If seeking a level of redundancy, then it would additionally be recommended that each MFD be interfaced as a spur to the system's powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone.
