[CA11] DSM300 with Axiom 9 Pro
if using a DSM300 with the Axiom 9 pro will i get all the functionality of the unit or do I need to upgrade the transducer/sounder?

RE: [CA11] DSM300 with Axiom 9 Pro
Brad,

The Axiom Pro MFDs are not designed for use with the legacy DSM30, DSM300, and CP300 sounder modules. Should you have one of these sounder modules, then it would need to be replaced with a CP370 Sounder Module. That said, doing so would only support the same types of sonar features as had the DSM300 with one's prior MFD. If seeking to have RealVision, DownVision, SideVision, and high CHIRP (conical) Sonar imaging, then it would be necessary to install an Axiom Pro RVX MFD and then interface a RV transducer / transducer pair to the MFD. Should the currently installed transducer's cable have been directly mated to the DSM300's transducer socket (i.e. no adapters), then the transducer's cable may instead be adapted to be mated to the 1kW Transducer socket of the Axiom Pro RVX MFD ... no need for a DSM300 or CP370.

RE: [CA11] DSM300 with Axiom 9 Pro
So if I'm understanding, I "MAY" not need to order the Axiom 9 Pro RVX MFD "WITH" transducer because if the current transducer was directly connected to the DSM300 socket then my current transducer can use an adapter to connect to the new Axiom 9 (current transducer being a M260)? If this is the case, do you know which adapter I need to purchase for the transducer?

thanks

RE: [CA11] DSM300 with Axiom 9 Pro
Brad,

If you are not seeking to have RealVision, DownVision, SideVision, and high CHIRP (conical) Sonar imaging features, then a RV transducer need not be purchased for the Axiom Pro RVX MFD. If the currently installed M260 transducer may be adapted (Part #A80496), then it may be mated to the 1kW Transducer socket of the Axiom Pro RVX MFD to support the same 50kHz / 200kHz sonar imaging as had been supported by the DSM300 and the MFD which it had been interfaced to.

RE: [CA11] DSM300 with Axiom 9 Pro
since i can eliminate the dsm300, is there any need for the seatalk hs switch or the nmea 0183 multiplexer or do i still need it for the screens to communicate?

Brad,

In order to specify whether the SeaTalkhs Network Switch and/or NMEA 0183 multiplexer may be eliminated, it would be necessary for you to list the make/models of the devices which are presently interfaced to the SeaTalkhs Network Switch and NMEA 0183 multiplexer.

RE: [CA11] DSM300 with Axiom 9 Pro
I'll have to get on the boat this weekend and get part numbers for what's connected to the switch. If I go with the Axiom 9 Pro RVX does the 2nd screen have to be a Pro S for functionality or can it be a standard Axiom 9 and is there a drawback if so?

You've been a great help...Thank You!

Brad,

A. As the MFDs are designed to share resources, should an Axiom Pro RVX MFD be installed, then any model of Axiom Axiom Pro, Axiom XL may be purchased for the system's other display(s).

RE: [CA11] DSM300 with Axiom 9 Pro
Chuck,
I have a similar question - currently have e80 and e120 classic displays and dsm 300 - having issues with the depth sounder module so was wondering if I could change out one display to Raymarine Axiom 9 RV Multifunction Display w/ RealVision 3D / 600W Sonar and go directly from my M260 to the mfd. Would that be compatible or do I need to go "pro"? I would leave the other display for radar and chart plotter as currently configured. M260 is 2005/6 vintage, e66081, 50kHz-AE&200kHz-BH, PN: 41-240-1-01.
Thanks,
Jon

RE: [CA11] DSM300 with Axiom 9 Pro
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Jon,

Indeed, a 1kW M260 which had been directly mated to a DSM300 may instead be adapted to be mated to the Transducer socket of an Axiom MFD. However, as the 50kHz/200kHz fishfinder circuitry of the Axiom RV and Axiom DV MFDs will only output 600W, when a compatible 1kW 50kHz/200kHz transducer is interfaced to an Axiom RV or Axiom DV MFD. In cases such as yours, it is typically recommended that the DSM300 be replaced with a CP370 fishfinder sounder module to permit the 1kW transducer to transmit 1kW of power and to maximize 50kHz/200kHz fishfinder performance. While Axiom Pro RVX MFDs feature internal 1kW 50kHz/200kHz fishfinder circuitry and the M260 may be adapted to be mated to the Axiom Pro RVX MFD's 1kW Transducer socket, some customers have reported better 1kW 50kHz/200kHz when a CP370 fishfinder sounder module is used.
