Autopilots - Upgrade To Evolution Series
Are their significant performance enhancement to be realized by upgrading to an EV1 Sensor Core, ACU-400 Actuator Control Unit, and P70 Autopilot Control? Currently have an SPX-30 connected to network via STng, Smart Pilot Controller - ST6002 - 570328, fluxgate compass, rudder sensor, and two Type 2 linear drives on the quadrant, 24 VDC long shaft.

54 ft Sailboat, 50,00 lb displacement, coastal and offshore sailing, multiple days on the water at one time so the instrument system remains on. Wind vane mode is our preferred mode especially for racing.

RE: Autopilots - Upgrade To Evolution Series
Art,

The principal advantages of the Evolution autopilots are
- superior heading and heal data from solid state sensors
- maximum integration capabilities with Raymarine's a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs

RE: Autopilots - Upgrade To Evolution Series
Is the performance of this Evolution EV-100 Wheel Autopilot system significantly reduce if there is not a rudder reference sensor installed?

I ask this because I currently have a ST4000+ system with the Mrk II wheel drive and the e7 MFD, but no rudder reference unit....thinking of upgrading but if not having the rudder sensor there not to sure...

RE: Autopilots - Upgrade To Evolution Series
No, the rudder reference is not required, and the performance will be significantly better than the ST4000+ because of the superior heading and heal data from solid state sensors, which also provide virtual rudder data to increase the performance of the autopilot.
