[TG11] Axiom crash on upgrade and reset.
I've got a Raymarine Axiom 9 which has been working very well.

Back in April this year I updated to v3.4.66 with success via a SD Card.

Since then I have not been able to update to any of the new versions including the one just released v3.7.70.

I have tried the following since April to resolve this issue. Here are some things I and tried and observed.

1. Tried a Settings RESET - The Unit asked for Yes or No. When I hit YES it says rebooting and the screen goes black and it never comes back. 1 hour say, I had to turn electronics switch off and on and it comes back.
2. Tried a Factory RESET - The Unit asked for Yes or No. When I hit YES it says rebooting and the screen goes black and it never comes back. 1 hour say, I had to turn electronics switch off and on and it comes back.
3. Software Update. It finds the update for the Axiom and after I select the update it reboots and never comes back. When I power off and on at circuit is says Software Update Failed. No details as to why. I have crash logs so I know it is crashing on 1, 2 and 3.
4. Disconnected the transducers, disabled all transducers and tried 1,2,3 - Same results.
5. Disconnected nmea BUS and tried 1,2,3 - Same results
6. WIFI download update - same as 3.

I have managed to get the systemlog off the unit and had a look through it. The log has the following which doesn't look good. Maybe just a distraction.
Should I post the complete log? It is

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I log a ticket with Raymarine?

Cheers,

RE: [TG11] Axiom crash on upgrade and reset.
Hello Ken,

Sorry to hear that. That's unusual, to say the least. I'd suggest the Power-On reset (see section 19.3, p286 of the latest issue of the LH3 Advanced operation manual which you can download from http://www.raymarine.com.au/display/?id=10125 for details) first, and if no luck there then I think that either ourselves or one of our technical service dealers should have a look at it. I see you're based in Sydney - we're in Frenchs Forest, if you'd like to get it to us directly?

NOTE:
On the power-on reset, for yourself and anyone else reading this. The boot-up / power-on reset will WIPE OUT ALL DATA IN THE DISPLAY, INCLUDING ANY CUSTOM DIGITAL SWITCHING CONFIGURATION. If in doubt, do not do this reset without checking with Raymarine technical support first.

Regards,
Tom

RE: [TG11] Axiom crash on upgrade and reset.
Thanks Tom,

I performed the Power-On reset as described in the document you posted. The unit became even more unstable and would not boot at all. After many resets ( circuit switch off and on ) I managed to get it to boot but still not able to upgrade. I removed the unit and brought it home where I connected it to my home wifi network. I was able to upgrade the unit to 3.7.70 after another reset as you suggested.

The unit appears to be a lot more stable now with everything working on the new version! The only issue I have is that when I reset setting or factory reset it attempts to reboot but never comes back. I still have to power off the circuit and back on. It does then boot and it's clear that the settings or factory reset has occurred. I guess I can live with that.
Don't really want to spend any more time resetting things :-)

I rang AUS tech support and Amanda suggested I make sure I ground the ground sheath which I will do once I get it back on the boat.

I bought an external SD card reader back in March and that's about the same time these problems started happening so I'm suspicious it may be related to SD card reader corruptions.

I'll post an update once the unit is back in the boat.

Cheers,
Ken

RE: [TG11] Axiom crash on upgrade and reset.
Hi Tom,

This unit has continued to give me grief so I have dropped the unit into your Frenchs Forest office. On the weekend the unit would not start when cold (temperature) I left the unit on (powered on) for 30 minutes and after 6 restarts it started to work. The unit worked for the rest of the day but failed again the next morning and I had to wait for the unit to warm up.

Regards,
Ken

Yes, I see we have that now, sorry that it's still giving you trouble. We've started working on it now and should have a solution for you before the weekend. We'll be in touch through the contact details you left when you booked it in.

RE: [TG11] Axiom crash on upgrade and reset.
Thanks to the team at Raymarine they were able to quickly identify that the unit had a hardware fault and a new unit was delivered. I have installed the new unit on the boat with the new update and it's working great!

Regards,
Ken
