[CA11] S1000 fishing pilot
Hi I have a S1000 that works great but the remote is getting old now and would like the security of a hard wired controller . Is it possible via the sea talk connection to use a conventional controller like a ST6002 or a more modern ST70R to control the autopilot

Thanks Brett

RE: [CA11] S1000 fishing pilot
Brett,

While it would seem technically possible to do as you have suggested with a p70/p70R autopilot control head, no meaningful heading data or rudder angle data would be displayed on the control head. We feel that the better solution would be to retain the currently installed hydraulic pump and instead interface it to an Evolution ACU-100. The ACU-100 would be interfaced to an EV-1 CCU and a p70R Autopilot Control Head via a powered SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone which has been constructed from SeaTalkng networking components.

I have the same situation as the original poster. As I don't get heading or rudder angle data with the S100 remote now, would using one of those control heads mentioned function at least the same as the wireless controller? If so, which one is better, and how would I interface it to the S1000 computer? Thanks

RE: [CA11] S1000 fishing pilot
mdc561,

The S1000 was designed as a low cost entry level autopilot which was designed utilize GPS data rather than heading data. Accordingly, the S1000 was neither designed to sense heading, nor was it designed to sense rudder angle. Accordingly, interfacing the S1000 to an autopilot control head will not then permit these data items to be displayed by the autopilot control head.
