RE: [CA11] RV400
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum kaptkaos,

In a nutshell, the features and performance of the RealVision transducers are all identical when used with an Axiom RV MFD, Axiom Pro RVX MFD, or an Axiom/Axiom Pro/Axiom XL MFD which has been interfaced to a RVX-1000 High Performance 3D CHIRP Sonar Module. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing the maximum operating depths & distances supported by imaging from RealVision transducers. The RV-400 differs from the RV-200 and RV-300 only in the material used for the transducer's housing (stainless steel, bronze, and plastic respectively). With respect to the sonar performance of the plastic, bronze, and stainless steel RV transducers, performance should be identical. To quote a West Marine Advisor article on the subject of thru-hull transducer housing materials: "Bronze transducers are recommended for fiberglass or wood hulls. Plastic transducers are recommended for fiberglass or metal hulls. Stainless steel transducers are recommended for steel or aluminum hulls. When installing a stainless steel transducer into an aluminum or steel hull, care must be taken to isolate the transducer from the hull to prevent galvanic corrosion. Plastic transducers are not recommended for wood hulls, since the expansion of wood can damage a plastic transducer." Plastic thru-hull transducer housings are also offered for those seeking a less expensive transducer housing. For your application, it would be recommended that the RV-220 bronze pack be considered.

The following is an excerpt about the RV-400 taken from the RealVision Transducers

NEW - RV-400 Stainless Steel All-In-One 0° Through Hull Transducer (with 0° Tilt)
Through Hull

Raymarine’s RV-400 stainless steel all-in-one through hull transducer is designed for inboard and outboard powerboats. The RV-400 lets you easily identify structures and locate fish with the life-like clarity of RealVision 3D™ sonar. The RV-400 is a 4-channel, Wide Spectrum CHIRP transducer with DownVision™, SideVision™, conical CHIRP fish targeting and RealVision 3D™ sonar inside. The transducer also has a built-in attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) that stabilizes the sonar imagery, compensating automatically for vessel motion. You’ll enjoy crystal-clear imagery even in waves, swells, and when maneuvering. The RV-400 also has a built-in fast response water temperature sensor for quick, accurate readings.

The RV-400 features a rugged stainless steel through hull body suitable for fiberglass, wood or metal hulls. The RealVision 3D™ transducer elements are arranged with a 0° offset for boats with flat bottoms. The low-profile design slips effortlessly through the water without causing drag or cavitation. The near-flush RV-400 works even works great on trailered boats and with no fairing block to cut, installation is a breeze.
