[CA11] Connecting Furuno radar to axiom
I have an existing Furuno DRS 2D/4D radar unit. It appears to communicate with the Furuno display via Ethernet. The radar head also has a NMEA 2000 connection available. Will this work with the axiom? Do radar heads with Ethernet/NMEA2000 output use standardized formats and protocols?
Thank you

RE: [CA11] Connecting Furuno radar to axiom
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Don,

Unfortunately, it would not be possible to repeat radar imagery and control third party radar products via a Raymarine MFD. Radar and fishfinder products are typically proprietary in nature. Accordingly, command, configuration, and control are typically accomplished via proprietary communications. Raymarine MFDs should not be interfaced to an Ethernet communications network which features third party devices except for compatible IP cameras and video encoders. While is it possible to interface a Raymarine MFD to a NMEA 2000 backbone to which third party products have been interfaced, the Raymarine MFD would be unable to acquire radar, fishfinder, cartography, or marine satellite weather features from the third party products via such an interface. Communications between the two systems would be limited to instrument, GPS, navigational, environmental, and engine data via the NMEA 2000 backbone.
