If you look on the back of the ST5000+, the fluxgate port will be color coded, Gray, Red, Green, Yellow and Blue, you will remove the Blue and Gray wires and measure between them.
[/

I removed the black and blue wire from the head unit. The ohms when checked on the black wire to blue wire is 7.8ohms.

When I perform an ohm test between the blue terminal and black terminal on the unit itself with the wires disconnected I get a reading of -4.59ohms

RE: AP5000 Plus
It seems the fluxgate is testing "good", so I would recommend you go ahead and re-calibrate the compass through the ST5000+ control unit.

Steve,

So I performed a recalibration test on the ST5000+. I did it twice in fact and the AP will not keep the boat on course. I place the unit in auto and after about 10-15 seconds it will swing either left or right and not stop turning until I put the unit back in standby and take control of the helm.

What next?

RE: AP5000 Plus
What deviation were you getting when you completed the compass calibration?

RE: ST5000 Plus
With a 2 degree deviation, you have tested the compass and confirmed it is working, and the ST5000+ not holding the heading. It points toward an issue with the ST5000+ control unit. Unfortunately the ST5000+ control unit is no longer repairable. The only thing I can suggest without upgrade, is to search aftermarket channels like Ebay, Craigslist or Marine Classifieds in order to find a suitable used replacement ST5000+.

RE: ST5000 Plus
Steve,

think I have found the problem. It was my rudder reference transducer. I installed a new one and I am now getting a full rudder reference indications on the LCD screen. Can you please send me the default settings for the ST5000 plus? I want to to reset all the values and do a re-calibration one last time. Also, would you have a recomendation on the settings for my boat?

Grady White Bimini 306 with twin 250 OB's

Thank you

RE: ST5000 Plus
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum DJ,

Unfortunately, the ST5000+ is no longer supported and as such our ability to answer questions regarding this autopilot is limited. The requested list of default settings is not available. Resetting the ST5000+ was accomplished by enter Cal mode (hold STBY button pressed for approx. 16 seconds -> Cal ?), configuring its Autopilot Model setting to something else (ex. 4000 TIL), exiting Cal mode (STBY), entering Cal mode again, configuring its Autopilot Model setting to the correct setting (ST5000 STRN, ST5000 SAIL, ST5000 WHEEL, ST5000 HYDR).

Please click herehere to view the manual for the ST5000+ SternDrive Autopilot where you may find instructions regarding how to configure it.
