Connecting to Horizon GX2200 AIS, GPS, DSC?
I was able to connect the AIS signal from my Standard Horizon GX2200 VHF to my e7D and can see all of the AIS data on the MFD (there appears to be a dedicated AIS NEMA 0183 line on the GX2200).

While planning I was wondering if there is any value in also connecting the DSC data from the VHF to the MFD, and the MFD output to the VHF? I assume that would also provide a second GPS/Location value for the MFD, but I'm not sure that would do anything?

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

RE: Connecting to Horizon GX2200 AIS, GPS, DSC?
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum marchem,

The advantage of permitting the MFD to receive DSC position reports from the VHF radio is that the user may then command these reports to the be automatically plotted by the MFD. Please see the attached chart addressing how the MFD may be interfaced to the GX2200 to support 38400 BAUD communications of AIS, GPS data, and DSC position reports. See page 21 of GX2200's Owners Manual (http://www.standardhorizon.com/downloadF...cation/pdf) which further explains the interface and see the manual all for any configurations to support 38400 BAUD communications.

Thanks. I see how it goes together now. The deeper I get into this, the more neat things I'm finding.
