RE: New System
Eric,
The currently installed B256 fishfinder transducer may indeed be used with an Axiom DV MFD, Axiom RV MFD, and Axiom Pro MFDs. The Raytheon G624599 B44 200kHz depth/speed/temp transducer may welly have been interfaced to the Tridata Instrument display. The B44 instrument transducer cannot be used to support fishfinding features. While the B256 fishfinder transducer will support traditional conical 50kHz / 200kHz sonar imaging, RealVision sonar feature would additionally require that the system be interface to a RealVision transducer(s). |

RE: New System
Thanks Chuck
I'm still a little confused on what the best fish finder setup will be. Here is what I am thinking my options are: Opt1 Axiom 12 (E70369-00-LNC) Add a Realvision transducer (RV-212S - A80467) Utilize my existing B256 Opt2 Axiom 12 (E70369-00-LNC) Add Realvision transducers (RV-220S - A80468 and RV-220P - A80469) Utilize Y cable? What benefit does this give me with 2 realvision transducers? Another Question for OPT 2 - with 2 real vision transducers, can I still Utilize my B256, and or upgrade to a 1Kw Chirp? How close can the Realvision and the B256 be? OPT3 Axiom 12 (E70369-00-LNC) Add Realvision transducers (RV-220S - A80468 and RV-220P - A80469) Utilize Y cable? Add in a CP470 and utilize my B256 or upgrade to a 1kw Chrip With OPT 3, should I only use 1 Realvision transducer? I may also go to the PRO system when its available. What would I be gaining over the standard? Just trying to get the best setup for salmon fishing and be able to use the Real Vision Option. Am I missing any other options? RE: New System
Chuck
After doing a lot of research on the system layouts I have a tentative plan that may change based on your answers from my previous reply. This is plan for hardware: E70372-00-LNC AXIOM PRO 12 RVX w/LNC - Axiom Pro 12" MFD with RealVision 3D and 1kW CHIRP and Lighthouse US Coastal Vector Chart E70368 Axiom 12, 12" Multifunction Display (MFD) A80010 B265 transducer to fit in place of B256 A80469 RV220 for Starboard side T70243 Quantum Q24C 18†Radar with 10m Power and 10m Data Cable T70330 Evolution Hydraulic Pilot p70R control head, ACU-150, EV1 Sensor Core, KIT E15023 Wireless Smart Controller E70245 Ray 60 VHF A06045 Adapter for connecting Autopilot to Axiom via STng See attached network drawing. Will this work? Am I missing anything? (I'm thinking a STng adapter) I'm hoping this works the best for salmon fishing One last question - is the B256 the same dimensions as the B256? Sorry for the long message. I'm trying to get this system ready for purchase. RE: New System
Eric,
Q1. Opt1 Axiom 12 (E70369-00-LNC) ... this is more specifically an Axiom 12 RV MFD Add a Realvision transducer (RV-212S - A80467) ... This is not valid. When installing the RV-2xxP/S transducers, these transducers must be installed in pairs Utilize my existing B256 Opt2 Axiom 12 (E70369-00-LNC) ... this is more specifically an Axiom 12 RV MFD ... Add Realvision transducers (RV-220S - A80468 and RV-220P - A80469) Utilize Y cable? ... Yes. What benefit does this give me with 2 realvision transducers? ... See the response to option 1 regarding RV-2xxP/S transducers. Another Question for OPT 2 - with 2 real vision transducers, can I still Utilize my B256, and or upgrade to a 1Kw Chirp? ... the B256 may be retained and used How close can the Realvision and the B256 be? ... Raymarine Has not specified any minimum separation distances for RealVision transducer from other transducers. However, it is recommended that these transducers not be installed behind one another such that one transducer's movement through water may cause an aerated flow of water to be moved across the face of the other transducer. Use of a 1kW CHIRP transducer would require that the system include an Axiom Pro MFD or a CP470/CP570 CHIRP Sounder Module. OPT3 Axiom 12 (E70369-00-LNC) ... this is more specifically an Axiom 12 RV MFD Add Realvision transducers (RV-220S - A80468 and RV-220P - A80469) Utilize Y cable? ... only if a compatible 50kHz / 200kHz transducer (ex. B256, etc.) will be used in addition to the RV transducer Add in a CP470 and utilize my B256 or upgrade to a 1kw Chrip ... OK. The 1kW CHIRP transducer will be interfaced to the CP470, which in turn will be interfaced to the MFD via Ethernet. Q2. With OPT 3, should I only use 1 Realvision transducer? A2. See the response to Q1, Option 1. Only 0 degree RV transducers (ex. RV-100, RV-200, and RV-300) may be installed as a single RV transducer and these transducer would need to be installed on a flat bottom surface which will be parallel to the water's surface. Q3. I may also go to the PRO system when its available. What would I be gaining over the standard? A3. Beyond the advantages of the hybridtouch user interface and additional communications interfaces, the Axiom Pro RVX MFDs offer built-in 1kW CHIRP fishfinder circuitry in addition to RealVision sonar circuitry. The hybridtouch option may be particularly useful when operating the vessel under very wet or very rough operating conditions. This may potentially reduce the cost of additionally installing a CP470. Q4. This is plan for hardware: E70372-00-LNC AXIOM PRO 12 RVX w/LNC - Axiom Pro 12" MFD with RealVision 3D and 1kW CHIRP and Lighthouse US Coastal Vector Chart E70368 Axiom 12, 12" Multifunction Display (MFD) A80010 B265 transducer to fit in place of B256 A80469 RV220 for Starboard side T70243 Quantum Q24C 18†Radar with 10m Power and 10m Data Cable T70330 Evolution Hydraulic Pilot p70R control head, ACU-150, EV1 Sensor Core, KIT E15023 Wireless Smart Controller E70245 Ray 60 VHF A06045 Adapter for connecting Autopilot to Axiom via STng A4. See my response to Q1 Option 1. Should a RV200S be installed, then a RV220P will also need to be installed. As the Smart Controller's base station has a SeaTalk communications interface, installation of a SmartController will require that a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter be installed within the backbone. Q4. I'm hoping this works the best for salmon fishing A4. If considering replacement of the B256 with another transducer, I would recommend considering installation of a wide beam transducer such as the B275LH-W 1kW CHIRP transducer or SS270 50kHz/200kHz transducer for fishing the depth in which salmon are typically found. Specifications and dimensions for the B256 may be found here. Specifications and dimensions for the B275LH may be obtained from Gemeco, Inc. (Airmar’s US distributor (803 693 0777)). Specifications and dimensions for the B270 may be found here. |

RE: New System
Thanks Chuck
I think what I will do is run with my old 256 for next year but add 2 RV220's for real vision this year. For the RV220's I have an existing transducer [censored] near the keel which is plugged right now. I could install one RV220 in that [censored] and drill another [censored] on the opposite side for the other RV220. Assuming this will work, how close to the keel can the RV220 be? My boat has a small keel that extends around 6" in the area of where I may mount the RV220's. The Distance from the center of the transducer to the edge of the keel looks to be around 6 - 8". Will this be a problem? I hate to drill more holes in the boat if I don't have to. I am concerned that the Beam might catch the keel Also, Do transducers ever wear out? My B256 is a 1999 model. Just curious. I plan on changing it to a B275 as you recommend in 2019 (Cash Flow Issue). Lastly, did you see my Network layout drawing that I attached to the last post? Am I on the right track? I attached it again in this reply. RE: New System
Eric,
The complete installation instructions for the RV2xx transducers may be found here. As the shaft of the currently installed circular transducer appears to be one of those which are designed to be installed within a 2" [censored] (you will need to verify), the [censored] will need to be widened to 2.36" to accommodate a RV2xx transducer. Raymarine has not specified a minimum distance or maximum distance to place the RV2xx transducers from the keel. Regarding your diagram, the Data Master MFD, p70R AP Control Head, EV-1, ACU, and VHF radio will each be installed as a spur to the powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone which will be installed. The backbone will need to include a spur socket via which the backbone will be powered. A SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter will be installed within the backbone to accommodate installing the Smart Controller's base station. |

Thanks for all of your help. Do you think Raymarine will raise their prices for 2018? Should I purchase everything this year yet? I would love to spread my purchases out by a few months, but I don't want to have to pay for a new year price increase.. Also, are they shipping the Axiom 12" Pro's yet? Please let me know Thanks Eric 1999 Sea Ray 370 Express Cruiser Hardtop Twin 8.1 Horizons, ZF Hurth Transmissions, Axiom Pro 12 Axiom 12 Quantum II Radar Real Vision 3D 1kW CHIRP sonar B275 Transducer Ray 60 VHF ACU 150 Autopilot P70R Smart Remote https://photos.app.goo.gl/UKDm91zlSwlPhCQ12 |

RE: New System
Can I assume that I will be able to view the 3d fish finder on either Display (pro and regular Axiom)? I should be able to view anything on either display. Correct?
I used to have a C127 and a C95. With those units I had a Navionics Micro SD card to the maps. I still have that SD Card. Will this work for the newer Axiom? RE: New System
Eric,
Should a system feature at least one Axiom or Axiom Pro MFD having RV circuitry and that MFD be interfaced to a RV transducer or RV transducer pair, then any other Axiom MFDs which have been interfaced to the system via Ethernet communications will also have access to the RealVision 3D features supported by the Axiom or Axiom Pro MFD having RV circuitry. Like a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs which preceded the Axiom MFDs, when interfaced via Ethernet communications, the Axiom MFDs are designed to share all system resources except for NTSC/PAL video sources (ex. CAM50, CAM100, etc.). The Axiom and Axiom Pro MFDs share the same cartography requirements of the a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs running LightHouse II software. Accordingly the chart card use previously with an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD may be retained for use with and Axiom or Axiom Pro MFD. |
