Hi flywsteve
Thank you for your enquiry. The eS128 MUST have it's own direct power supply since it will draw 4-5 Amps when powering up and with the illumination fully bright. So PLEASE power the unit directly. In addition to this, the STng backbone will need it's own power supply as will SeaTalk, however, make sure that the power in the SeaTalk network is not connected to the converter - the achieve this, cut back and insulate the RED core of the cable lining SeaTalk to the Converter.
