Cleaning Raymarine products to prevent the spread of pathogens
Following the outbreak of COVID-19, Raymarine has received a number of inquiries regarding products which may be safely used to clean / disinfect the screens and controls of Raymarine products to prevent further spread of pathogens. We trust that the practices listed below will not only reduce further spread of pathogens, but protect your Raymarine products from damage resulting from improper cleaning.

Best Practices for Cleaning and Sanitizing Your Raymarine Equipment

We would like to provide guidance on how to best clean and sanitize Raymarine multifunction displays and instruments. Like other solid surfaces, the touchpoints on all Raymarine electronics can be cleaned and sanitized to reduce the transmission of bacteria and viruses between users.

Cleaning and Sanitizing Multifunction Displays and Instruments

Raymarine touchscreen and button-operated multifunction displays and instruments are best cleaned with mild soap and freshwater. A mild disinfectant can also be used for sanitizing when necessary.
Most electronic screens have coatings applied to them that reduce glare, repel water and resist oily smudges. Overly aggressive cleaning and harsh chemicals can damage these coatings so care should always be exercised when cleaning.

• Before doing any wiping or scrubbing, always rinse your device with cool, fresh water to remove salt crystals or sand that might scratch.

• Use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth or microfiber towel to wipe your screen and buttons. Avoid paper towels or other paper-based wipes as these can scratch coatings and plastic surfaces.

• Avoid using disinfectants with a concentration of isopropyl alcohol above 70%. Concentrated alcohol is a solvent that can cause damage to display coatings, paints and other finishes on your devices. Thoroughly rinse and dry after sanitizing.

• Never use any abrasives, acids, ammonia, solvents or other chemical based cleaners.

• Always be aware of the locations of map card readers, exposed connections, and other penetrations that could allow water or cleaner into the screen.

• Never use a power washer, jet wash or other high-pressure cleaning equipment on electronics.

Cleaning Display Sun Covers

Most Raymarine multifunction displays come with a hard plastic, silicone, or self-adhesive sun cover to protect them from the elements. When cleaning and sanitizing your screens, it is also important to remember to thoroughly clean these too.

• Hard plastic and soft silicone covers can be cleaned with normal soap and water. Thoroughly rinse it and allow it to fully dry before putting it back over your screen.

• Soft, self-adhesive covers like those provided with Axiom XL and gS-Series displays can also be cleaned with normal soap and water. The self-adhesive side can be cleaned in the same manner which will also remove any debris, salt or sand stuck to it. Allow it to completely dry before reinstalling it on your MFD.
