Replacing an E-Series Classic MFD(s) with an Axiom MFD(s)
Please note that the Axiom MFDs may not be installed within an Ethernet (SeaTalkhs/RayNet) network which additionally includes E-Series Classic MFDs. As such, should the current system presently feature more than one E-Series Classic MFD, then all of the E-Series Classic MFDs will need to be replaced with Axiom MFDs and/or a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs. Following the release of LightHouse 3 software for a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs, Raymarine’s Axiom MFDs and a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs may be mixed or matched in any combination within an Ethernet network. The Axiom MFDs and a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs are designed to share all system data (except for NTSC/PAL video) with one another via the Ethernet network to which they will be interfaced. MOUNTING: Raymarine does not presently offer adapter mounting plate/bezel kits to replace flush mounted E-Series Classic MFDs with Axiom MFDs. POWER: Axiom MFDs are designed be powered via the Power Cable included within the package of the the Axiom MFD. Accordingly, the currently installed E-Series MFD Power Cable will need to be replaced with the Power/NMEA 2000 Cable supplied with the Axiom MFD. ETHERNET: Should the E-Series Classic MFD currently be interfaced to the system via a SeaTalkhs Cable, then the Axiom MFD replacing the E-Series Classic MFD may be adapted to use the currently installed SeaTalkhs Cable by using an A80160 SeaTalkhs (F) to RayNet (F) Adapter. NMEA 0183: An E70196 VHF NMEA 0183 to STng Converter Kit would typically be recommended for those simply seeking to supply GPS data to a DSC VHF radio. For those seeking bidirectional communications with NMEA 0183 listeners and a NMEA 0183 talker, the NMEA 0183 leads of any NMEA 0183 devices which are presently interfaced to the E-Series Classic MFD's NMEA Cable will need to be disconnected from this cable and will instead be interfaced to a NMEA 0183 to SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 data bridging device (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-STNG, Actisense NGW-1-ISO-AIS, etc.) are available from third parties to support interfacing NMEA 0183 devices to systems featuring Axiom MFDs. SEATALKNG / NMEA 2000: Should the Data Master E-Series Classic MFD be interfaced as a spur to a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone, then the Data Master Axiom MFD may be interfaced to this backbone via a DeviceNet (F) to SeaTalkng Spur Adapter (a 400mm version of this adapter has been packaged with Axiom MFDs). Should the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone be constructed from third party NMEA 2000 networking components, then MFD may be interfaced as a spur to the NMEA 2000 backbone via an appropriate length (up to 6m) of spur cable from the supplier of the system's NMEA 2000 networking components. Satellite Weather/Radio: The initial release of LightHouse 3 software for Axiom MFDs did not include support for SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio. The LightHouse v3.3.170 software updated added support for SiriusXM Satellite weather for Axiom MFDs which have been interfaced via Ethernet communications to a SR150 SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio Receiver and LightHouse 3 v3.9.46 recently introduced support for the SR200 SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio Receiver which has replaced the SR150. Legacy SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio Receivers will not be compatible Axiom MFDs. A future LightHouse 3 software update may add support for SiriusXM Satellite Radio features to Axiom MFDs which have been interfaced via Ethernet communications to a SR150 SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio Receiver. Video Input: Raymarine’s Axiom MFDs support video input exclusively from IP video sources (ex. CAM210IP, CAM220IP, FLIR M100/M200 Thermal Camera, etc.). Accordingly, should the E-Series Classic MFD have been interfaced to an analog video source, then this source would need to be encoded with a third party video encoder (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC) to viewed via the Axiom MFD. Instead Axiom™, Axiom™ Pro, and Axiom™ XL MFDs can be connected to a wireless display using an external dongle or a display that has built-in support. When connected the MFD’s screen is mirrored on the wireless display. PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION: While the replacement of this equipment is well within the capabilities of those familiar with marine electronics equipment installation, there will be some cable splicing and cable chasing required.
