[CA11] CPT-S transducer and heeling
Will a CPT-S transducer work on a sailboat or can it not cope with the heeling? Are there any DownVision Transducer that can handle the heeling of a sailboat?

RE: [CA11] CPT-S transducer and heeling
Niiiad,
The CPT-S thru-hull transducers are commonly used on sailing vessels. Their primary value is in determining bottom trending and sensing bottom hardness. As indicated within FAQ found here, the cone angle of the CPT-S (low power / high frequency CHIRP) is 25 degrees. The cone angle of most instrument depth transducers is as much as 44 degrees, making them better suited for determining depth when heavily heeled over. As each as its advantages and limitations, many sailing vessels will elect to equip the boat with both types of sonar technology and will configure the system's Data Sources feature to use the instrument depth transducer as the source for numerical Depth values reported within the system. |
