MFD Chart Display Blurred
The eS97 MFD, recently installed, does not display landmass/terrain clearly after zooming in closer than about 2000 ft. This is while using the C-Map 4D charts. The marine nav aides show clearly, but not the near shore land area. Many islands are blurred out altogether from any zoom level. My unit will not zoom any closer than 50 ft even though your tech support rep said it ought to go to 20 ft.
I have attached numerous screen shots (dumps) for your review. They have included a data box that shows the Lat/Long of the cursor position. |

RE: MFD Chart Display Blurred
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum and thanks again for providing the requested screen snapshots. These snapshots were forwarded to both the program manager for Raymarine's MFDs as well as to C-Map (specifically Paul Wilson via Brandy Power) for comment. Upon receiving a response from C-Map, this post will be updated. Please note that the aerial overlay cartography displayed by MFDs has always been a bit light with respect to resolution. Over-zooming of low resolution aerial overlay cartography will increasingly make the cartography appear increasingly blurry with each step increase in chart magnification. Accordingly, Navionics Platinum Plus and C-Map 4D Max+ cartography customers should not expect the resolution and clarity of web based aerial overlay services (ex. Google Earth, etc.). Raymarine's initial assessment of the screen snapshots which you have provided is that the LightHouse II software within your MFD is correctly displaying the aerial overlay cartography and that quality of the presentation is limited by the resolution of the aerial overlay cartography content present within the C-Map 4D Max+ cartography. We have also compared Navionics Platinum+ aerial overlay cartography to that found within the C-Map 4D chart cards and found that it appears to be of slightly better resolution when comparing the same location. In the screen snapshots (Navionics Platinum+ in left pane, C-Map 4D Max+ in right pane) of a parking area at the docks in Provincetown, MA below, the C-Map 4D Max+ aerial overlay cartography appears to pilelate before the aerial overlay cartography of the Navionics Platinum Plus cartography sampled.
