fuel flow sensor options for raymarine MFD input
Looking for tried and true fuel flow sensor options. This is for older boats, usually sterndrive and inboard, that are carbureted and is obviously not networked. Had multiple customers ask me for this option. Trying to find best option and most economical means. Considering the Garmin GFS 10 fuel sensor. I like the fact that it hooks to analog gauge to read fuel level along with NMEA 2000 output for fuel flow. Should be able to use adapter cable A06045 devicenet female to plug into open slot in 5 way STng connector. Will have to extend nmea 2000 cable first, as it only comes with a 5 foot nmea cable. Any input would be appreciated.

RE: fuel flow sensor options for raymarine MFD input
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum SnakeDriver,
It is not enough to install a NMEA 2000 fuel flow sensor. Such sensors must be calibrated and this often requires that a compatible display from the same manufacturer be installed. Per the Garmin FAQ on this subject, "A 3rd party device will not be able to configure the GFS 10. The GFS 10, Garmin Fuel Sensor, is an instrument which provides fuel flow data. When configuring a GFS 10, a Garmin chartplotter/sounder or Garmin NMEA 2000 display device with NMEA 2000 or CANet connectivity must be used." As indicated, Garmin fuel flow sensors are not alone in having such a requirement. That said, should a NMEA 2000 certified third party fuel flow sensor and compatible third party display required for calibration of the sensor be interfaced to the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone, then the Raymarine MFD having a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 communications interface will support use of the fuel data information supplied by the sensor to the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how a NMEA 2000 device having a DeviceNet plug/socket may be interfaced to a spur socket within a SeaTalkng backbone.
