EV100 with p70 on Seatalk1?
Current system is 3 ST60 instruments, an e7D MFD, and E22158 ST1 & STng converter. All work fine and talk together.

I now want to add an EV100 wheel autopilot pack. I understand that the EV1 and ACU100 will use STng to talk to the e7D. My question is if I can also use the p70 control head by connecting it to the ST1 instrument ST1 chain using an ST1 to STng cable (A06047?) and then use either the p70 or e7D to control the autopilot. It also makes the wiring easier, since the p70 is in the same pod as the ST60s.

Not the way I would recommend, you can control the autopilot but you will lose calibration controls, and diagnostic features with the p70. I understand the question, is the Seatalk to Seatalk NG converter in the same POD location?

Thanks. It isn't now, but by moving it to the pod with the ST60s and p70 (so the p70 can connect to the STng directly), then there's only one backbone cable going from there to the next pod with the e7D, and finally one backbone cable from there down to the ACU100/EV1.

I know the power injection to the backbone is supposed to be in the middle of the chain, but in this case does it matter if it's in the middle (with the e7D) or at the end (with the ACU100/EV1)?

That is correct with that size of backbone and amount of components. The power in the center is to make sure the power is even throughout the backbone, it won't matter with your installation.
