Axiom Boat Position Symbol

On my Axiom 9 sometimes my boat is shown as a boat symbol as I have chosen but other times merely as a black dot. What does the black dot mean? Why one and not the other?

Hello carlmk,

The icon changes from the boat to a dot when the MFD loses heading. If you do not have a dedicated heading sensor, then you are relying on SOG for heading. This means that when you stop the boat icon will change into a dot.
