[CA11] a75, NMEA 183 and Seatalk1 integration
I need to connect st40 depth, st40 wind, st40 speed and a Standard Horizon GX2200 to a MFD A75. Can you please tell me what converters and cables do I need? Thanks in advance.

RE: [CA11] a75, NMEA 183 and Seatalk1 integration
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum gusigle,
Unfortunately, the GX2200 does not feature a NMEA 2000 communications interface and the a-Series MFDs do not feature a NMEA 0183 communications interface. If seeking to interface the GX2200 to an a6x/a7x MFD, then these devices would need to be interfaced to one another via a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how a simple backbone may be constructed. As the GX2200 does not feature a NMEA 2000 communications interface, a NMEA 2000 data bridging device supporting 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-AIS, etc.) would be required. If the NMEA 2000 data bridging device is wired to the GX2200's 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications interface in a manner which would support bidirectional communications, the not only would the MFD receive AIS data via the NMEA 2000 backbone, but the GX2200 would receive GPS data in support of its DSC and AIS features ... see page 21 of the GX2200's Owner's manual ... the NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 data bridging device would be substituted in place of the GPS receiver shown within the diagram. - connect the 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 OUT+ (white) lead of the NGW-1-ISO-AIS to the NMEA 0183 IN+ (blue) lead of the GX2200 - connect the 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 OUT- (blue) lead of the NGW-1-ISO-AIS to the NMEA 0183 IN- (green) lead of the GX2200 - connect the 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 IN+ (red) lead of the NGW-1-ISO-AIS to the NMEA 0183 OUT+ (gray) lead of the GX2200 - connect the 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 IN- (black) lead of the NGW-1-ISO-AIS to the NMEA 0183 OUT- (brown) lead of the GX2200 - Configure the GX2200's NMEA DATA IN/OUT setting to 38400 BPS. - No communications port settings need be configured on the MFD to support communications between the MFD and GX2200 - To view AIS objects within the MFD's Chart application, configure the AIS overlay (MENU->PRESENTATION->OVERLAYS->AIS) to ON. If a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter is interfaced to the aforementioned backbone via an appropriate length of SeaTalkng Backbone Cable, then the unpowered SeaTalk bus which that will include the ST40 instruments may then be connected to the SeaTalk (yellow) socket of the SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter. The ST40 instruments will be powered by the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone via the SeaTalk (yellow) socket of the SeaTalk to SeaTalkng converter. |

RE: [CA11] a75, NMEA 183 and Seatalk1 integration
Thank you, Chuck.
I guess I was wrong, but reading p 57 (RAY_a-c-e Series_ESP, chapter 4.13, image attached), I thought it would be possible to connect gx2200 to the A series MFD whithout a bridging device, sending DSC and AIS data from vhf to MFD (one direction only). So, this is not possible, isn't it? Another question: is there any diference between the 5 way connectors included in E22158 and E70196 kits? Is the same R52131 in both kits? |

RE: [CA11] a75, NMEA 183 and Seatalk1 integration
gusigle,
Q1. A1. The diagram which you have referenced addresses how one may supply a VHF radio with GPS data from an a-Series MFD. Were one simply interested in doing so, then this would indeed be a solution. However, it does not address how one may supply the MFD with AIS data from the VHF radio / AIS receiver. If seeking the latter, then the solution provided within my initial response must be employed to not only supply the VHF radio with GPS data, but also to supply the MFD with GPS data from the GX2200 VHF radio / AIS receiver. Q2. Is there any diference between the 5 way connectors included in E22158 and E70196 kits? Is the same R52131 in both kits? A2. The SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter contained within the E22158 SeaTalk1 to SeaTalkng Converter Kit and E70196 VHF NMEA 0183 to STng Converter Kit are identical. |
