Outputting AIS Data via NMEA 0183 from e125
Hello,

I have an AIS 650, several e125s, e95s and a65s on my boat. I have a Standard Horizon GX2000 VHF radio that is capable of displaying AIS targets on it's display as well as providing a calling list of nearby vessels. In order to do this I need to be able to output AIS data on NMEA 0183. I'm not able to figure out how to do that via the e125. I have the SH VHF radio receiving 4800 baud NMEA info (position, etc) but can't get it the 38,400 AIS info. From the AIS 650 manual it appears I don't want to use the NMEA 0183 output directly off the AIS 650.

Thanks
Ben

RE: Outputting AIS Data via NMEA 0183 from e125
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Ben,

For maximum communications of AIS data within a Raymarine system, it is recommended that AIS receivers/transceivers be interfaced as a spur to the system's SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 backbone. Raymarine MFDs are neither designed to transmit AIS data via their NMEA 0183 ports nor their SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 ports. AIS data received via the either the MFD's NMEA 0183 or SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 port will be shared with other MFDs via the Ethernet network interfacing the MFDs to one another. Similarly, Raymarine's AIS receivers/transceivers a not designed to function as a NMEA 0183 to SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 data bridging devices. As such, one should not expect that an AIS350/650/500 which has been interfaced to a SeaTalkng backbone will transmit both GPS data and AIS data via the AIS receiver's 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 output port.

It is recommended that you verify whether your third party VHF radio supports NMEA 2000 communications, and if so, then interface both the AIS receiver and VHF radio as spurs to the SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 backbone. Should the third party VHF radio not support NMEA 2000 communications, then it would be recommended that the AIS receiver/transceiver be interfaced to the SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 backbone. A NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 data bridging device supporting AIS sentences (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-AIS, etc.) would then be interfaced as a spur to the SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 backbone and the third party VHF radio would in turn be interfaced to the corresponding NMEA 0183 leads/terminals of the NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 data bridging device.
