[CA11] Requirements for HD Radome on E120
Hi,
The RD424 E52067 on my boat has become intermittent. Sometimes it fills the display with solid amber return, if gain turned way down some echos are displayed (but not all), then it will eventually return to normal operation and I have to readjust the gain. Other times it stops all display and I need to power down the scanner and power it on again to recover. I am thinking of replacing the scanner with a refurbished 24" HD Color Radome E92143R on sale now. I believe this is compatible with my E120 which is running SW v5.69. I also have a DSM30 which would be using the Seatalk HS connection on the E120 so I will need to add a HS5 switch to connect a digital Radome. Questions: 1. Is the E92143R compatible with my E120? 2. I would likely mount the HS5 next to the DSM30. What cable is required to connect them? 3. For the E120 to HS5 connection, I could either run a new cable (maybe 8' or so?) or add an adapter to the cable currently plugged into the DSM30. Suggestions? 4. Please confirm for the Radome cable I would use "Radar Cable (RayNet)" such as A80228 or A80229 depending on required length for power and HS5 connection. 5. Please confirm that the E92143R is the same mounting as the RD424. Thank you! Howard |

RE: [CA11] Requirements for HD Radome on E120
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Howard,
Q1. Is the E92143R compatible with my E120? A1. Yes, E-Series Classic MFDs which have been updated with v5.69 E-Series Classic MFD software are indeed compatible with the E92143R RAYMARINE RD424HD 24 RADOME (the "R" suffix on the product ID simply identifies that the radome has been remanufactured. Q2. I would likely mount the HS5 next to the DSM30. What cable is required to connect them? A2. Should the cable routing distance be no more than 1m, then the A80276 1m RayNet (F) to SThs (M) Socket Adaptor Cable would be recommended. Q3. For the E120 to HS5 connection, I could either run a new cable (maybe 8' or so?) or add an adapter to the cable currently plugged into the DSM30. Suggestions? A3. It would typically be recommended that one connect an A80160 400mm RayNet (F) to SThs (F) Socket Adaptor Cable to the end of the SeaTalkhs Cable which had been connected to the DSM30. The adapted cable may then be plugged into one of the available sockets of the HS5 RayNet Network Switch. Q4. Please confirm for the Radome cable I would use "Radar Cable (RayNet)" such as A80228 or A80229 depending on required length for power and HS5 connection. A4. Digital Radar Cables with the following part numbers are all intended for for the stated purpose: A80227 (5m), A80228 (10m), A80229 (15m), A80230 (20m) of supplying power to the radome as well as a network connection to the system via a device having a RayNet (M) socket (ex. HS5 RayNet Network Switch, Axiom/Axiom Pro/Axiom XL MFD, or a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD). Q5. Please confirm that the E92143R is the same mounting as the RD424. A5. The RD424, RD424D, and RD424HD all share the same shell, footprint, and mounting bolt pattern. |
