[LW11] SeatalkNG to Seatalk HS Switch
Is there a cable to connect into an ethernet network(E80) a new AIS via a SeatalkNG to Seatalk HS Switch? I cannot find one on the website. Thanks.

Dear hadjiosif,
Thank you for your query. There is no such convertor cable as these are different data communication networks. What AIS unit are you looking to purchase? The new AIS products can plug straight on to the STng network or use the NMEA 38400 port, both of these are supported by the E80. Many Thanks Louise |

Thanks for the response. I'm looking to buy the AIS650 but would rather not use the NEMA 0183 connection since is already overcrowded. Can I use the STng connector directly to the Seatalk 2 plug on the back of the E80? There is no other STng network on the system. Would the A06061 (E-Series to STng Adaptor Cable) work without an existing STng backbone? I have two E80 classic connected by ethernet cable via a ST hs switch. Thanks, Lee

As indicated within the FAQ found here, it is not possible to adapt devices lacking an Ethernet interface, but having a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 to a Raymarine Ethernet (SeaTalkhs / RayNet) network. As indicated within the FAQ found here, the E-Series Classic MFDs are additionally not designed to process NMEA 2000 PGNs associated with AIS data and as such AIS receivers/transceivers cannot be interfaced to the A/C/E-Series Classic MFD via its SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 communications interface. The device(s) which are presently interfaced to the MFD's NMEA 0183 Cable will need to be disconnected from that cable and instead connected to the 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 leads of the AIS650. The AIS650's 38400 BAUD leads will in turn be connected to the MFD's NMEA 0183 Cable and the MFD's NMEA 0183 Port will then be configured to "AIS38400". |

The final release of E-Series Classic MFD software (v5.69) introduced limited support for SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 communications. Such support included communications with Raymarine autopilots, instruments, and GPS sensors featuring a SeaTalkng communications interface and some types of third party NMEA 2000 devices (ex. NMEA 2000 engine gateways, etc.). Accordingly, it would be recommended that this interface be used for interfacing an E-Series Classic MFD to products such as a Raystar 150/130 GPS Sensor, Evolution/SPX autopilot components, i50/i60/i70/ST70 instruments, etc.. However, this update did not include the software required to process NMEA 2000 PGNs associated with AIS data. As indicated within my previous post and the referenced FAQ, AIS receivers and transceivers must be interfaced to A/C/E-Series Classic MFDs via the MFD's NMEA 0183 communications interface. The good news is that unlike most third party AIS receivers and transceivers, Raymarine's AIS 350, AIS650, and AIS700 feature a 38400 to 4800 BAUD bidirectional bidirectional NMEA 0183 multiplexer to address situations such as yours, where the MFD has already been or will need to be interfaced to other devices having a 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications interface. |
